Continued on the Erie Canalway Trail. The colors along the trail reminded me that fall had been here. Outside Rochester, the canal met and crossed Genesee River, creating a grand view of water. Among many bikepacker I met, one had rode coast to coast three times. It could be additive, I guessed.

At Pittsford Lock E32, there was an observing deck where you could see the entire lock from above. The water level is in general higher toward the west. So a lock would lower the water to let boats in from the east and raise it to let them out to the west.

The fixed and lift bridges have limited height clearance that would not allow any sailboats to pass without their masts taken down. There are business at each end of the canal that help sailboat owners to do just that at the beginning of their canal trips and raise their masts up again at the end.

I took a detour to see the Richmond Aquaduct ruin at Montezuma. Had to climb a deep hill to get there. A lady told me a short cut to avoid the hill on the way out. I wish I knew this when I came in.

I planned to camp in the Speedway Campground of Weedsport. I called and I was told to paid online because no one will be there when I arrived. It turned out to be for RVs only: no public toilet, no water supply. I decided to check in a hotel.
