The morning ride was uneventful as yesterday. Continued following US Bike Route 20 E through country roads and a rail trails, Wadhams to Avoca Trail. Sceneries changed when I reached Marysville MI and went south along the west bank of the St Clair River. Took a ferry at Algonac across the river into Canada.

On the ferry a passenger told me about a pow-wow on the Canadian side. I decided to go there it. It was the Harvest Moon Pow-Wow, High Banks Park on Walpole Island, Ontario. This was perhaps the best pow-wow I had seen. Not just the spectacular costumes, it was the participation by people of all ages, including babies held by their parents. A lady, Mona Stonefish, started a conversation with me. When I joked that I rode my bike all the way from Seattle to see this pow-wow, she liked it. She asked me to join the dance. I obliged and did a full circle in the ring with others while trying to figure out my steps. When Mona heard about my AHA fundraising, she immediately handed me 20 dollars. Another lady appreciated the fundraising as well because her son died from a congestive heart failure.

After the pow-wow, I went through country roads to Chatham. There are many wind turbines. The crops are the same as in MI: corn and soybeans. The first time on this trip I saw people hand picking in the field (red peppers). This was very common in Florida years ago. Farmhouses are more spread than in MI. I didn’t see other distinct differences between the farmlands of ON and MI.

The soybean fields along the road already turned yellow. Soon they would be ready for harvest.

Chatham is a big city. I had to negotiate with traffics on the road without bike lanes or even sidewalks. Did I wish to stay in a small town?!
