Continued on the Piere Marquette State Trail. Someone put marks of the solar system planets along the route with distances between them proportional to the real ones. Saw another elevator. This one is different in that trains went directly underneath it. There were black squirls that I had never seen in Seattle. Canada Goldenrods were plenty on the roadside, maintaining the perpetual yellow flower scene for me.
There is a three-way bridge, the Tridge, over the Tittibawassee River when it intersected with the Chippewa River in Midland. On the Tridge, I met Buddy. My Obliteride jersey with “Cure cancer faster” on the back caught his attention. He was just diagnosed with stage 2 prostate cancer and was waiting for his radiation therapy. He told me a brief history of Midland and how Herbert Dow brought his company here. He had the AHA fundraising QR code and would post it on his Facebook. We have kept in touch since then.
