From Ludington, I decided to take a different route from the original one. Peter planned to go through Ann Arbor to visit his friends. He lived in Ann Arbor for many years and couldn’t pass this opportunity to visit there. I decided to follow an alternative route to the east to Bay City, turn southeast to Port Hurton, ride south along St Clair River to Algonac, and from there cross the border to Canada as originally planned.

Out of Ludington I saw a big wind farm, which I had not seen since east WA.

I for the first time saw the national bike route system. I was on US Bike Route 20 East. I later learned that the US Bike Route System started in the 70s. I wondered why it had not been adapted in WA, at least not in the Seattle area. The route went through Manistee National Forest.

I was later on the Piere Marquette State Trail. It was well maintained, unpave rail trail from Baldwin to Reed City, then paved to Clare.

The Evart Riverside Park, where I camped, is next to Muskegon River.
