This was a short ride from Bellevue to Manitowoc. Along the Devils River State Trail, a gravel rail trail between Denmark and Manitowoc, there are many electric power poles from the past.
I took a ferry from Manitowoc across Lake Michigan to Ludington, MI to start the last one third of the trip. Since Billings, MT where I had my last full day of rest, I had been riding nonstop to get back in sync with the original plan. After today I’d have 15 planned riding days/segments to be covered in 20 days till the end of September. Without major issues and with 5 days reserved for rests and weather delays, I should be able to finish as planned. This was the first time after Othello, WA that I felt confident about completing the trip.
On the historic S.S. Badger, you can stay in public sitting areas, play bingo, or get a private room with a bed. The five-hour ferry ride gave me time to rest, organize my notes and photos, and plan for the rides in the coming days.
