I woke up late in the morning. Peter already packed and started his ride from his campsite. We texted each other and planned to meet in Menomonie or some other town for lunch. But we managed to miss each other. I decided to stop at Stanley and booked a hotel there, expecting Peter to join me. He didn’t make it. Ironically, this is how we departed the second time.
More deer. Some of then didn’t run away from me but stared at me from distance. The bike routes are numbered here as for the highways. Instead of finding out which street to turn to, you can just follow the numbered bike routes.
A road closure brought me to four people in front of a house for directions of detours. They all laughed when they learned that I was from Seattle. The young couple were also from Seattle. The other couple wanted to contribute to the fundraising for AHA and copied the QR code. We took selfies and said goodbye. Their suggestion of the detour was much better than what I would figure out myself. It went through Lake Wissota instead of residential areas or farmland.
At Stanley, I had another Mexican meal and tried the first time Queso Fundido, Mexican fondu. Instead of dipping veggie, bread or meat into melted cheese, everything is cooked together with cheese. Very good.
I had shopped food many times at Dollar General, which is a chain store as a mini Walmart or an expanded small-town general store. Many family-run small general stores had probably been driven out of business by Dollar General. But I couldn’t resist a picture of it with a late sunset.
