Out of Kindred, I was soon on dirt farm roads that were used perhaps only by farming vehicles. Some of them were smooth but dusty. Others were next to impossible to ride. I was wondering again whether I was the only fool who ever rode a bike on these roads. I noticed how dark (black) the soil was, in contrast to the brown and red soils I had seen before. For almost the entire time on these farm roads, I was the only soul.
I didn’t pay much attention until now to the differences between old and new elevators. The old elevators were mostly square in shape and built of woods or concrete. The new ones are all metal. Functionally, they both lift grains to their tops from a pit at the bottom where grains are dumped after being transported from the field. At the top, grains are sent to different bins to store and from there to load on trucks (or train in the past) to be transported elsewhere. The difference is that all bins are inside the old elevators, hence a single structure, whereas the new ones are separated round structures.
There were churches on the roadsides but not close to any town. I assumed they were at the population mass centers of neighboring towns.
I left ND today and arrived at Fergus Falls MN.
