Day 28 August 30 Belfield to New Salem

The morning was wet because of dew.

Oil pumps started to show up. More sunflowers. Saw roadrunner the first time. It ran exactly as in Looney Tunes.

When I stopped on the roadside resting and refueling, waiving at cars/trucks passing me. Some of them stopped, turned around and came back to check if I was ok. This warmed my heart to know that when I was in trouble, I wouldn’t be alone. I have known two bikers who got rescued these past days. One passed me on a truck that carried his bike and stopped to chat with me. The other was Peter. He got another flat late in a day and was lifted to a town where he made a hotel reservation.

Thunderstorms were seen at the distance. They stayed away from me.

I thought I would be the only one camping in the city campground of a small town New Salem. There were RVs and car campers.  Camping is such a popular option for summer vacations.
